Additional materials needed for the activity:

  • Two 10-liter (2.5-gallon) buckets (preferably one clear bucket so you can see the purification process as it happens)
  • A large spoon
  • A clean, 100% cotton cloth (a clean T-shirt or  kitchen towel will work)
  • Scissors
  • Dirt (from your backyard)
  • Bungee cord or clothes pins (to hold cloth over the bucket)
